SEO 2017 And The State of SEO in 2017
Looking toward the state of SEO in 2017 does not seem hard. In my view, speaking as the owner of a London SEO company it does not require trance induction, crystal balls or indeed much future gazing skills at all really. Google has laid SEO 2017 out for us all to see, as clear as day. Although not so many sites have been wiped of the rankings pages this time, there has been a cataclysmic change in this last year alone. Of course, that is not to mention the last 20 years. We have been on a fascinating rollercoaster ride as Google’s capabilities have grown and increased, increased and grown, until now, it is on the very edge of genuine artificial intelligence. As SEO practitioners going in to 2017, we are playing cat and mouse with possibly the most advance invention mankind has ever created.
As regards the SERP’s, more seems to have changed this year than just about any year since that 12 month period when they released the infamous Panda (2011) and Penguin (2012) left hook, right jab to the face of just about ever SEO practitioner out there. Yet in reality, there was not the landslide of ranking changes as Google slipped in certain fundamental changes with its most recent releases.
I remember back in the day. Tales of the Google Bomb where people would build enough link with anchor text such that a search for the term ‘miserable failure’ would end you up at George Bush’s website. Make any kind of website. Build a huge directory of random links and place it at the back of your site. Any and all links would be good. Get a robot to autosend requests to swap links with all kinds of other sites. Taxidermy, plastic surgery, rock climbing. They all would give juice to your site.
Then Google got wise to that. They shut stuff down. Reciprocal linking stopped having any value. Sites were massively punished (and remain punished to this day most of them. Adwords accounts shut down for good. It was carnage! Those days of easy google rankings are gone, and they are gone for good.
Google has moved on. If you pay someone to create innumerable backlinks with just one click, using tools like GSA, MoneyRobot or SENuke, you should know that for sure Google is watching you! Realise that, in Google, we are talking about probably the greatest man-made machine ever created, probably the greatest computer known to man. In time, as Google develops its intelligence further, if you cheat sooner or later Google will find you and no doubt, in terms of rankings, Google absolutely will punish you.
I do not wish to conjour up fearful images akin to some dystopian novel like Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, but seriously, it gets me so frustrated seeing people on websites like the SourceWave Marketplace and Fiverr.com offering SEO services for countless dollars. These are services that probably cost them less than $5 and a single click of a button. Even even worse, they offer them as white hat (all above board) SEO services. Would you risk your organisation’s online reputation by purchasing these unaccountable services? Just how much is your company’s good name worth to you?
If you should see deals for countless numbers of profile based backlinks, or bundles with Post Submission, Wiki backlinks, online search engine submission or directory site links, my advice is, run to the hills! They are using the type of tools Google is taking every effort to clamp down on.
Those selling you such services typically have no idea that it might cause a negative effect for your website. What really annoys me the most though is that often these so called service providers do understand that they are likely to cause your site damage in your rankings, but they still do it anyway!
So, are you in it for the long term? If so then be aware that the only SEO that works today, and will work permanently in the future is to not do SEO any more! As an out and out SEO with an out and out SEO site, this might sound weird, but in essence, even building one single link, by definition, is actually going against Google’s code of best practise.
So yes! You heard me! The time of deceiving Google is over. Some techniques may still work for a while longer. However, it’s just a matter of time before that comes to an end. If you are serous about your business, do not take that path! Instead, come with me!
I want an easy life. I want to sleep well at night. I therefore only want to perform SEO where I do not need to fret about the next Google upgrade or algorythm change. The last one, I positively rejoiced over to be honest! Instead of worrying, as in this last one, Penguin 4.0, I personally always really enjoy Google updates since, each time, they take out another bunch of my competitors. Google seems to love my sites more and I rise up in the rankings! How do I it? It’s really easy. I simply do not do SEO. Instead, I naturally promote sites in the ways that Google loves and respects and, for their part, Google naturally ranks them!
Think of high quality sites in your specific niche connecting to you. In addition, envision getting backlinks from authority sites like Mashable.com, HuffingtonPost.com, Entrepreneur.com, and comparable sites (depending on your specific niche).
Picture your social profiles ending up being more popular and getting genuine Facebook likes and shares from authorities in your specific niche. Can you envision exactly what would occur then? In Google’s eyes, you are all of a sudden an authority in your field because you are being seen to have respect from those key people of influence in your specific niche! So, suddenly your site’s posts are ranking high for the majority of your specific niche keywords. All that and the very best thing is that these rankings will stick! You do not need to stress or worry about losing traffic from one day to the next.
